Learning Your Taekwondo Patterns? Here's help with Taegeuk E Jang (taegeuk 2)

We find taegeuk e jang is quite similar in many ways to taegeuk il jang. So it's important not to rush into taegeuk 2 before you know your first pattern inside out. Otherwise the two taekwondo patterns can easily get muddled together in your head.

OK. Let's get into the pattern.

  • Swivel 90' to your left. This brings you into walking stance- left foot in front. As you turn do a left arm low block.
  • Step forward with your right foot into front stance. Do a right arm middle section punch.
  • Step with your right foot and turn 180' to your right. This brings you into walking stance with your right foot forward. Do a right arm low block.
  • Step forward with your left foot into front stance. Do a left arm middle section punch.
  • Step 90' to the left with your left foot into walking stance. Do a inner middle block with your right arm.
  • Step forwards with your right foot into walking stance. Do a inner middle block with your left arm.
  • Step your to the left with your left foot and turn 90' to your left. You should end up in walking stance with your left foot in front. Do a middle block with your left arm.
  • Do a front kick with your right leg and land in front stance with your right foot in front. As you land complete a right arm face punch.
  • Step with your right foot and turn 180' to your right so you end up in walking stance with your right foot forwards. Do a right arm low block as you turn.
  • Do a front kick with your left leg and land in front stance with your left foot in front. As you land complete a left arm face punch.
  • Step to the left with your left foot. Turn through 90' to end up in walking stance with your left foot forwards. Do a left arm high section block.
  • Step forwards in walking stance and do a right arm high section block.
  • Step with your left foot and turn 270' to your left to end in walking stance with your left foot in front. Do a right arm middle block.
  • Keep your feet pretty much where they are and swivel 180' to your right. You end up in walking stance with your right foot in front. Do a left arm middle block as you turn.
  • Step with your left foot. Turn 90' to your left into walking stance and do a left arm low block.
  • Do a right leg front kick to land in walking stance. Do a right arm middle punch.
  • Do a left leg front kick to land in walking stance. Do a left arm middle punch.
  • Do a right leg front kick to land in walking stance. Do a right arm middle punch. Ki-hup!
