Starting Taekwondo at 66!

by Bobbe Fireweed Seibert
(Anchorage, Alaska)

I was lucky to win a 10 class special to Champ Martial Arts in Anchorage Alaska. I'd always wanted to try martial arts and now had no excuse. While it was a bit confusing at first, with everyone moving together regardless of knowledge level, I was soon sorted into a group at my level for the final 20 minutes of the hour.

I've now done 4 weeks. I was to test for my yellow stripe on the 11th, but the form has just been revised. Looks like I'll get another week to learn the changes and then I'll do my first test.

I'm now more fit than ever, 3 lbs lighter and extremely pleased to have learned so many moves and so many Korean phrases. I feel quite at home in our Dojang whether with kids that barely are as tall as my knees or with black belts who top me by more than foot. We all shout and kick and train with enthusiasm and joy.

Taekwondo at any age is a life style of real value.
