Humanitarian School of Martial Arts
by J.T. Long
The Humanitarian School of Martial Arts is an at risk youth program in Enid Oklahoma that teaches the art of Tae Kwon Do to all ages.
I'm 37 years old and recently achieved my 2nd gup, red belt in our school and help teach the younger students. School age kids can attend for free.
One of the greatest things about our school is the family atmosphere. I have my 5 and 6 year old daughters and my 13 year old son also going and they all love it.
There is no greater feeling of accomplishment then teaching these young ones the art, and when they finally understand how to execute the technique an amount of pride and achievement washes over them like they discovered some new treasure.
Those are my absolute favorite moments. We also have movie nights where all the kids and the instructors gather on a night and watch family friendly movies together.
Dustin Musick 5th dan black belt is the head instructor, and he has shown me no matter what age I am, I can still do it all.
Thanks for your time,

Its wonderful hearing stories about adults starting their martial arts practice as parents and training alongside their children. That is a strong bond that will last a lifetime.
Teaching children is an incredible opportunity for you (and not always easy at first!) Sounds like you're a great parent and role model for others. I hope you get more parents on the mat by your example.
Good luck and keep us posted on your training!
