Better Olympic sparring
by Mitchell Gorsha
I think TaeKwon Do sparring in the Olympics has a future, if they make an adjustment or two.
First, forget about point sparring and use continuous sparring.
The ITF/US-ITF use continuous sparring for all competitions. This takes care of the possibility of some spectators considering it boring.
Second, make the chest protectors optional. Some contestants will want or need to wear them, but for most, the chest protector is just a target to be hit harder.
I don't believe that a smaller ring will help. It will probably result in more fighters stepping out of the ring more often, resulting in less fighting.
